My life as a mom of two!
My Name is Mommy
It's Girls' Weekend! This means a bunch of teacher/mommys all drinking and some scrapping in a cabing for the weekend. It's awesome! What's not awesome is all the prep the nights before we leave.
Last night Victoria was 'helping' me go through old pics. She held up a faded pic of my when I was about one and said, "Is that me?" really slowly like she didn't think it was but still it might be. I said, "No it's me." She stared and stared at it and then got really close to my face and asked, "Was your name still Mommy?"
It was adorable!!!!!! I told her no and asked what she thought mine name was and said, "Probably Kelly!"

The Exact Age
Last week Christian turned the EXACT age Victoria was when I had him. No, I can't imagine having another one right now. Or ever. People keep asking me that. Stop asking people.
So I've been thinking a lot about what that time was like right before and right after we had him. We have sooo many pictures of Victoria and me baking when I was pregnant. That led me to thinking that Christian and I have NEVER baked alone (minus Victoria) before. So Tuesday night right after dinner I told Christian we were going to bake together. He starts saying egg over and over bringing his hand up and down like he's cracking it. Then starts pulling the chair over. At this point I didn't even know what we were going to bake. So I started going through boxes to find the items that require the most eggs. This turned out to be chocolate chip cookies and Red Velvet Cupcakes. Big. Mistake.
So this poor kid has hardly ever gotten to bake with me. When Victoria was his age she could actually crack an egg with one hand. Well, Christian wants to squeeze the egg until it breaks and immediately starts asking for more before this one is even cleaned up. Then there's the RED dough for the cupcakes. WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?!?!? There was red everywhere! Both of our hands were stained red, we used every single towel in the entire drawer to continuously clean up. The amount that was supposed to fill 12 cupcakes barely filled eight with so much being lost in transit from the bowl to the cupcake liners.
In the end we had fun (he did anyway and I'm really good at pretending) and shared an experience. The cupcakes still aren't frosted. Don't know if they ever will be.
The cons of being the second child continue. . .

My Second Trip to Memphis
Christen is one of the best friends I've ever had in my life. She was my mentor my first year of teaching. She was my matron of honor in my wedding. Days after I got married, her husband, one year old son and her. . .MOVED ALL THE WAY TO MEMPHIS! I was devasted! She even sent me flowers that first day back to school that Sept. because she knew how hard it was for me to be there without her. That Oct. I visited her. She was pregnant with Jonah and I was about three weeks behind pregnant with Victoria. Despite both being pregnant and getting the worst food poisoning in my life, we had a great time. Hey, we went to Graceland!
Fast forward nearly exactly four years.
In the last few posts I've blogged about her son Adam sustaining a terrible head injury while playing. I was so scared for him, Christen, the whole family I could barely speak. All I could do was cry leaving her the first message imagining all she was going through. I wanted to get there for her as fast as possible. That turns out to be about 1.5 weeks later.
I hate to say that it took a tragedy to get me down there, but hey, I got there.
I got to the airport on Friday morning nice and early excited to have a very UNhealthy breakfast at McDonald's and read. However, little problem at security. My license expired LAST WEEK on my birthday. Hmmmm, not good. I quickly went into I can't believe it's not here yet either! Ah, probably because I didn't even know it expired, let alone actually applied for a new one. So, he let me in.
Then I couldn't help ut wonder if the security in Memphis will let me BACK home four days later. I'll worry about that then. Where is the closest McDonald's anyway.
I had a lovely flight filled with turbulance. I enjoy it, it spices up the ride. My neighbors, who were straight out of the south didn't like it as much as I did. At one point a baby cried (no doubt because s/he felt like s/her was bring dropped over and over) and the guys said, in a VERY southern accent, "Why don't she breast feed and shut that kid up?" I had to laugh out loud at that one.
I hopped off the plane called Christen and within two minutes she and Adam were standing right in front of me! It was amazing. We usually see each other maybe two times a year, so it's awesome to be together. To see Adam smiling and happy, with just a hint of a lingering black eye, was incredible!
Within minutes we were on our way to lunch at MacAlisters.
Then off to pick up the 'big' boys from school. I've known Ben since birth so he knows me, but poor Jonah. I'm sure I'm pretty much a total stranger to the poor child. It took until day 4 for him to hug me and take a picture.
We went home and played tag and raced and raced in the back yard. Their dad has graced them with super long fast legs, so I was barely beating a kindergartner. :-)
It is such a wonderful feeling to feel so comfortable in someone's house even though you hardly ever see them. But I felt like I fit right in.
Christen's parents came to watch the kids so we went to dinner at El Porton. I like to call it Mexican Southern style. I swear my enchilada sauce had BBQ sauce in it. It was great. This was the first time Christen had left Adam since the accident. She did great being away from him!
Then we rented Bride Wars. I think I stayed awake for about 30 minutes. Movies always put my right to sleep.
On Saturday Christen was so kind to take me to her gym for Boot Camp. I actually thought, "How hard can it be? I've been taking classes at Lifetime and I've done some really difficult ones." I didn't think I have hard worked out in the last six weeks and that's really going to matter! Let's just say we started out kickboxing a weighted bag 50 times and then ran outside to do Suicides! I am not a quitter, however, I didn't say, "I don't know if I'm going to be able to do this."
65 minutes later it was finally over. The class was 60 min but I was so slow on the last activity my 'class' lasted an extra fine. More than a few times I was face down sweating and exhausted. I have a whole new respect for Biggest Loser. Three times I thought I was actually going to throw up, but the trainer assured me, "It happens more than you think. Don't woory about it." Hmmmm, I was worried.
After lying on the living room floor for a while we then got ready to go to a really good craft fair. Stopped by Subway on the way. No way was I eating unhealthy after Boot Camp!
Christen's mom makes jewlery and sends the profits to build classrooms in Africa. They have built three classrooms and have made $30,000 in five years! I got a gorgeous bracelet and some other cute goodies for the kids.
Saturday night was celebrated Christen's brother in laws bday at their new house. I met Christen's two year old niece for the first time.
Then we went to Live Trivia that Jim was hosting. Unfortunatley we only knew four answers all night. It was still fun though.
Sunday morning Christen, Adam and I had breakfast at Cracker Barrel. It was great. Then we all went to church. Jim plays the drums for church. It was a contemporary service and it was amazing! Watching Jim play was so cool! It's like he became a different persom. It was the first time Adam had been to church since the accident. Soooo many people came up to them and told her how they have been praying for him. They have so much support in TN!
They said a prayer for Adam and Christen held him up above her head. It was really beautiful and moving.
After church Christen took me for a Birthday Pedicure! Yahoooo! That was a delightful time together. I even got my fingernails done to match also. I was happy!
Sunday night was went to Mom's Group. Six ladies (including me) met at a restaurant to. . .well that's debatable. To gossip. . .a little. . . to complain. . .a lot. It was interesting. Then we watched some more Bride Wars. I still haven't finished it. I'll add it to my Netflix list.
Monday was a few hours of crammed in hugs and kisses and playtime. As I said, Jonah warmed up to me a couple hours before I was leaving, so that was nice. Adam apparently sucked on a blue marker, possibly ate the whole thing, because we never did find the source of the blue.
Off to the airport. A few tears, but they'll be in MN for Christmas. So just another five weeks and we'll be together again. Christen is even talking about visiting MN for a weekend, BY HERSELF! So that would be awesome.
Memphis did let me through security. She just laughed and said, "Did you know you're expired?!" Haha.
I read a full 450 page novel and five magazines. I really wanted to relax and read and I did. It was a great trip.
I was reminded of:
*How fast accidents can happen and we can't prevent all of them
*How precious our kids are
*How friendly people are in the south
*How much I miss my kids after 12 hours away
*How much I love to read
*I wish I had a better southern accident and not a Chinese/Southern one as I was told
*How important friendship of a GOOD friend really is
*How good it is to be back home with my own beautiful family

I'm off to Memphis in about an hour. I'm looking forward to reading in peace on the plane.
I can't wait to see Christen and her family. It should be an exciting weekend.
Dreading saying good bye to V & C.

A Kindergarten Friendship?
I'm lucky enough to work with one of my best friends. We visit each other often throughout the day to share something educational or just tell each other something. So she popped in today to tell me something. Then she walks out and my little H Man says, "Have you been friends with her since kindergarten?" In 2nd grade language this means, I can tell you two are really good friends. It was cute and funny and I couldn't resist calling her to tell her. Her response was, "Tell him we're sisters." Students often confuse us anyway. So I told him and he said, "Ooooohhhh!" Like that solved the mystery or something. I confessed it wasn't true and then he just looked confused. It was funny.
